As a homeowner, you may have some experience with electrical work inasmuch as you’ve needed an electrician to fix or look at something once or twice. However, have you ever heard of a “ground wire?” This is actually a big part of electrical safety and is needed to keep the system running smoothly.
Electrical Safety Not Guarantee Without a Ground Wire
“A ground wire provides a conducting path to the earth which is independent of the normal current-carrying path in an electrical appliance. … it is connected to the electrical neutral at the service panel to guarantee a low enough resistance path to trip the circuit breaker in case of an electrical fault.” Essentially, the ground wire allows for the same dispersal of excess electricity so that it doesn’t become dangerous.
Without this particular wiring, there would be a much higher risk for fires and electrocution. Excess electricity is actually more common than you might guess, which is why it’s necessary for a ground wire to be part of the power lines at home. They actually also make it so that surge protectors within the home function, as they would not be able to protect their “charges” without this wire.
Electrical safety is not something to be taken lightly, and so every homeowner should make sure that they have a properly-wired interior and exterior. If you aren’t sure whether or not this is the case, then feel free to contact us.
