The TV is covered in dust. Your laptop has crumbs between the keys. Your smart phone is sticky. Whatever the case, you’re bound to find yourself with a less-than-pristine device sooner or later. “Cleaning electronics is essential to proper function, but more importantly, stopping the spread of disease.” To keep them working right and to prevent yourself from getting sick because of them, you should follow some of the following tips to keep them squeaky clean.
- Keyboards are, as mentioned, a big offender. First, unplug them, if on a desktop computer, and unplug the entire laptop if not. Invest in a can of compressed air which can effectively remove debris from between the keys, beyond your reach. Finally, “use a clean cloth dipped in isopropyl to clean keys and surfaces,” but do not use this same cloth (or any alcohol product) on screens.
- Touch screens on phones, tablets, and more are covered with whatever germs you introduced with your fingertips. Use a microfiber cloth without anything else to wipe it down. If that isn’t enough, it’s safe to use “a solution of 50/50 distilled water and white vinegar” on the cloth with which you can then gently clean the screens. You can clean your TV screen the same way.
As a general rule of thumb, cleaning electronics should require a gentle touch, a microfiber cloth, and a solution dependent on the sensitivity of the device.
