Outdoor Lighting Has Many Functions

Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, which means that the evenings will be getting darker earlier than ever. This is usually a disappoint for most people as the last traces of summer fade away, but that doesn’t mean you should stay in the dark. Consider adding some new or updated outdoor lighting to keep yourself safe when out, say, sitting by a fire pit!

Why Should You Upgrade Your Outdoor Lighting?

You may not be spending as much time outside in the fall and winter, but that doesn’t mean you’ll never be outside. In fact, it’s already dark when many people come home from work, and so you should make sure that your walkways and beyond are well-lit.

So, what are some of the reasons to ‘invest’ in outdoor lighting? Beyond the safety of avoiding falls, it increases your home security, improves general functionality of outside spaces, and adds curb appeal, if that’s important to you. Whether you’re trying to make things more aesthetically-pleasing or want to discourage any snooping around the holidays, an upgrade to your lights can make a big difference.

Wondering what areas are the most important to light up? Entryways, naturally, where people are coming and going every day. Beyond that, walkways, like sidewalks to and around the home, and flood lights for areas where you might be entertaining. Spotlights can highlight an accent feature, or simply add security over a door, window, or other places that might need that extra safety light. Also, lights around your landscaping, or even around the (now-inactive) pool can add nice touches even when these areas aren’t really in use.

Finally, if there are any steps or stairs, make sure that you keep them well-light. Outdoor lighting obviously has a lot of varying purposes, but safety is high on that list, and should be remembered in places like this where trips and falls are common.
