Motion-Activated Lights: Troubleshooting

Motion-activated lights can serve as a great addition to the overall safeness and utility of your home. They can deter potential invaders from breaking in and effortlessly light your way to avoid trips and falls. Unfortunately, there are issues that can arise with the lights every now and then. If your lights fail to activate, read on for troubleshooting tips and solutions.

Proper Positioning of Motion-Activated Lights

When lights are installed on the outside of your home, they need to be properly positioned. If they are pointed in the wrong direction, then they won’t light up when something moves in front of them. Be sure to check the range sensitivity of your lights. If you notice that the lights don’t turn on when motion is detected, then they should be re-positioned.

Proper Installation

Motion-activated lights need to be installed properly. Even though they are designed for outdoor use, water could seep into the wiring and cause a short-circuit. If you installed the lights yourself, then there is always a chance that the lights aren’t wired properly and may not operate. Contact your local electrician for inspection and assistance with any wiring repairs.

Maintenance for Motion-Activated Lights

Make sure the lights are clean from debris or grime build-up. Bulbs will also need to be replaced as they do wear out over time. To clean the sensor, use a clean, soft cloth and avoid scratching the glass or plastic surface. And make sure you have extra bulbs on hand to replace them when necessary.
