Are Flickering Lights Dangerous?

Are flickering lights a common occurrence in your home? There are a few reasons why your lights might not be working as they should. A simple fix might be to check to see if a light bulb is correctly screwed in. However, if the problem persists, then it’s time to call a professional.

Flickering Lights Can Be Dangerous

If it’s not a loose bulb, another reason your light could be flickering is because the light switch isn’t properly connecting. Toggle your light switch on and off. If the problem fixes itself, you’ve found the reason. However, if you consistently need to do this to keep your lights from flickering, the switch will need to be replaced. Also, loose or frayed wiring and dated outlets – common issues in older homes – can cause lights to flicker. If your lights flicker when you turn on a high-wattage appliance, the reason could be because the voltage in your home is fluctuating too much. This kind of flickering is ominous and shouldn’t be ignored. At the same time, trying to fix the problem yourself is commendable but not advisable. Unlike an amateur, a professional electrician can accurately and safely assess and fix the problem.
