Solar power installations “could reach the 1 million mark in 2015,” according to a recent study by the Solar Electric Industries Association (SEIA). Thirty-six percent of electricity came from solar power last year, and the industry is growing. While solar power grows in popularity, electricians everywhere are training to be apt in solar installations.
Electricians that instal solar panels are part of the green building movement, as many new buildings are being fit for solar panels during development. Older structures are not shy to solar power, in fact, many homeowners are opting to run their homes on solar power – whether they own a new or old property.
“’The energy codes are quickly becoming stricter, which is driving increased performance in buildings,’ says Ellen Honigstock, director, education development for the Urban Green Council, the New York chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. ‘While it’s great for contractors to voluntarily adopt sustainable practices, electricians must also be aware of the direction that stricter energy codes and standards are taking the industry.’” Long story short – reduced energy consumption will become more and more pressing.
