The mayor has committed to retrofitting every public building with significant energy use in the five boroughs. The effort is part of his administration’s plan to cut New York City’s greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050, compared with the city’s emission levels in 2005.
The plan is to triple the amount of solar panels on public buildings. Solar panels on New York’s City Hall might set off a series of chain events, if popular cities like New York are jumping on the solar powered bandwagon others will follow suit.
