Energy Bill - Tim Kyle Electric, Heating & Cooling

Energy Bill Doesn’t Have to Be Staggering

It’s the big question on most homeowners’ minds: how can I cut back my energy bill in order to save money? Nobody wants to be hot, cold, or in the dark, and yet everyone wants to see those costly numbers go down. Is there a way to accomplish this all throughout the year?

Commit to a Lower Energy Bill This Spring

Of course there is! Though the steps you might take to do so depend on the season, saving money on your electricity bills is far from impossible. For example, with spring having just started, you may want to call on a profession to take a look at your electrical panel to ensure that it’s running smoothly and efficiently. If it’s out of date, then it may be time for an upgrade! The same goes for your water heater. Though you may not be using as much hot water as in winter, you’ll certainly still be using some, and you want it to waste as little energy as possible.

As is true of the rest of the year, make sure to do things like turning off the lights when not in use, or simply set them on timers that will accomplish this for you. For spring, though, you should try and keep the thermostat running between a “wider range” than you might when you want to cool down in summer or warm up in winter. Fall and spring are temperamental seasons, but they’re also temperate, which is good news for your energy bill.

In the summer – which isn’t as far away as you might think – you should invest in a thermostat that will cool down the house while you’re in it and maintain a higher, less-expensive temperature when no one is home. Though you might want to throw open the windows in order to get some natural light and a nice breeze, you should consider keeping them closed and shaded so that the cool stays indoors and the heat stays outside.

These are just some of many ways that you can save on your energy bills: there are a lot of others that are applicable all year round or just in a single season.
